The facial artery crosses the jawbone about a third of the way from the angle of the mouth.

The facial artery is a branch of the external carotid artery and make its way to the face beneath small neck muscles before reaching the underside of the jaw. Its pulsations can be felt at a bony groove on the jawbone (mandible) just in front of the jaw muscle (called the masseter).
