Glutathione has been touted as a “wonder drug” to treat uneven skin tone and the dark spots associated with melasma.

This is a good example of overinflated marketing claims rather than based on sound scientific evidence. Which is still awaited.

Glutathione is used topically, orally and intravenously.

Stable skin preparations that penetrate the skin and don’t break down immediately (the main issue currently), however, have potential.

Glutathione can be particularly effective as it switches melanin production from darker eumelanin to lighter pheomelanin.

And its effects happen much more quickly than other pigmentation treatments.

As yet, there are no stable skin formulations.
