Reasons why you need lip augmentation

Lip fillers can be used to give plumper, more voluminous lips. Find out why there is a fine line between natural looking lips and overfilled.

Reasons why you need lip augmentation

The lips

Lips are one of the main features of the face that define beauty.

Some people are born with naturally attractive lips, which, like the face, is determined by Phi.

For the white ethnic group, this equates to a ratio of 1.6 to 1, such that the lower lip is slightly more voluminous than the upper lip. The black ethnic group tends toward 1 to 1 (both lips are equal in volume).

An aesthetically pleasing lip has the following features:

  1. Symmetry between the upper and lower

  2. A pronounced cupid’s bow

  3. A well-defined vermillion border

  4. Fullness in the centre that tapers out toward the mouth

  5. The upper lip slightly protruding compared to the lower lip.

Most white woman prefer a 1:1 ratio.

Fillers can also be used to correct thinning lips, if your lips have lost their definition or if you want to improve the appearance of any lines surrounding the mouth.

To keep the lips balanced, the top lip should be smaller than the bottom lip. If you have a small chin, big lips can overpower it, especially when looking from the side, and give you an unnatural look.

So for natural-looking lips your practitioner will need to tailor these proportions accordingly.

And to do this well, your other facial features will also need to be considered.

A natural-looking pout doesn’t always require treating the entire lip, but instead, adding volume or contouring the outer edges of the lips, the cupid’s bow, or the corners of the mouth, may be all that is needed to achieve the best result for you.

To restore a more youthful or balanced appearance to your lips, our highly experienced doctor will use several different techniques, and he will always work with you to maintain a natural result, never overfilled.
