What is Shortwave diathermy?

Shortwave diathermy is a non-invasive and highly effective way to remove unwanted hair. Unwanted hair can grow for several reasons, from hormonal and hereditary factors to medication.

Shortwave diathermy is the controlled application of an electrical current to tissues. This method of treatment is also used during surgical operations.

 

Diathermy is a safe and effective treatment for many skin blemishes, such as milia and skin tags. The process of removing hair is called epilation.

 

Sterex manufactures the epilator we use. This is a well-established and trusted manufacturer of electrolysis machines.

What happens during epilation?

The Sterex system uses an ultra-fine needle which is carefully placed into the base of the hair follicle. The needle is then heated with an electrical current. Most people describe a hot sensation during the treatment.

How long does the hair need to be before treatment?

The hair has to be a few mm in length to be successful, so do not wax, pluck or epilate the hair in the area that you would like treated. If the hair is bothering you, you can cut it, taking care not to disturb the hair follicle.

How many treatments will I need?

You will need several sessions to achieve completely destroy the hair follicle. It is quite normal that the follicle has to be treated a number of times.

What other methods are there to remove hair?

There are many ways to remove unwanted hair for example:

 

  • shaving

  • threading

  • depilation

  • sugaring

  • waxing

  • laser


All offer temporary periods where the facial hair disappears for a while after the treatment but always returns eventually. Diathermy is the only permanent hair removal method
